November 17, World Premature Baby Day was celebrated in different countries for the first time since 2011. This idea was first proposed in 2008 by the European parent organization, and its purpose is to increase awareness and warn the public about premature babies. Every year, about 15 million premature babies are born in the world, which is equivalent to one in every ten births. Out of this amount, one million babies die every year due to premature complications, and a large number of those who are saved are dealing with premature complications for a long period of their lives. Complications such as cerebral palsy, vision and hearing problems, etc. A premature baby is a baby born prematurely before 37 weeks. Every year, 15 million premature babies are born around the world. In Iran, the approximate number of premature babies born is 12%. Premature babies can be caused by reasons such as modern lifestyle and work, stress and illness, increasing gestational age (especially in the first pregnancy), alcohol, smoking and drug use, illegal drug use during pregnancy. Pregnancy, having twins, etc. Prematurity of babies is one of the main causes of death in them. Problems such as respiratory distress syndrome, chronic lung diseases, cerebral intraventricular hemorrhage, long-term mental and neurological complications, necrotizing enterocolitis, sensory-nervous development disorder, seizures, inability to feed, jaundice, etc. can plague premature babies. But it should be known that the first The risk that threatens these babies at birth is the immaturity of the lungs and the lack of effective breathing. Significant progress has been made for the continuation of the normal life of premature babies. The vital composition of "surfactant", which is incompletely produced in the lungs of premature babies, is injected into the lungs using intratracheal intubation in the early hours after birth, and it improves breathing and oxygen release. The next problem for premature babies who have difficulty They have left breathing behind, feeding should be done with utmost caution. In the beginning, it is not possible to feed from the mother's breast and it must be done through a gastro-oral tube or a syringe with patience and care. Also, care in keeping and moving these babies is very vital, because the premature vessels inside the brain are very fragile. It is prone to bleeding, and the more premature the baby is, the greater this risk will be. In general, premature babies need special and comprehensive care, including the state of growth and development, evaluation of the retina, vision and hearing, etc. The establishment of multi-specialty clinics to follow up these babies after discharge from the hospital can reduce the dimensions of physical, developmental and psychological problems. For this reason, global movements have been started for some time to help families with premature babies, and public awareness has been formed at the community level. It should be known that in most cases, the prevention of premature birth and prematurity of the baby is in the hands of the mother. The mother can prevent such a painful birth by modifying her lifestyle. Things like nutrition, physical activities, smoking, alcohol and drugs and stress should be corrected and controlled by the mother. Also, pregnancies should be planned in advance and the mother should be under the supervision of a gynecologist or midwife three months before pregnancy. Pregnancy care Periodically and regularly, screening measures, genetic counseling and, if necessary, laboratory measures and imaging are also effective in preventing the birth of a premature baby.
